General info on nugget kangaroo 2020 gold coin
The Australian nugget kangaroo 2020 gold coin is minted by the Perth Mint. The kangaroo 2020 coin has a legal tender status in Australia and is one of the few legal tender coins that changes its design every year. Because of the limited mintage and separate design of the bullion coin, its numismatic value tends to rise every year. The gold nugget coin was introduced in 1986 to the world. The nugget coin will be available in the denominations 1/20, 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 oz. Like last year, the obverse of the coin shows Queen Elizabeth II with a face value of 100 AUD. The reverse of the 2020 edition shows 2 kangaroos between 2 palm trees.
The nugget kangaroo history
The nugget kangaroo was introduced to the world in 1986 by Gold Corporation, which was better know by its trading name The Perth Mint. In the starting years from 1986 to 1989 the reverse of the coin pictured various gold nuggets. In 1989, the Perth mint broke with this tradition and changed the design to feature different kangaroos, which was a more world-recognised symbol for Australia. The coins are often referred to as “gold kangaroos” instead of the full “nugget kangaroo”.
